Lady’s Second Chance

From almost euthanized to forever loved, Lady’s second chance changed everything for her and her puppies.

When LADY first came into our care at Humane Society of Blue Ridge, her future was uncertain.

She had been picked up while she was in labor, scared, overwhelmed, and running out of time. Her puppies were born shortly after at Gilmer County Animal Shelter and because they were completely full, LADY was placed on the euthanasia list.

At the time, our shelter was completely full and we were not able to take her in.

But Lady got her second chance because a foster family stepped up and said yes. When that happens, we are able to save lives even when we are at capacity.

While LADY and her puppies stayed safe in foster care, Humane Society of Blue Ridge covered their medical care and gave them the support they needed to heal and grow.

What started as an emergency quickly turned into something much bigger.

LADY, once considered a feral dog and nearly facing euthanasia, showed everyone exactly who she was: a loving, protective, and deeply devoted mama. She cared for her puppies with patience and heart, and little by little, she learned what it felt like to be safe herself.

Every one of her puppies was adopted and is now living their best life with their own loving families!

If LADY had been euthanized, none of them would be here. Those lives, those families, those happy endings, they all started because someone chose to give one scared mama dog a chance.

And in the best ending of all, the foster family who first saved her couldn’t let her go.

They adopted LADY, giving her the forever home she deserves!

From feral dog, to almost euthanized, to loving and dedicated mama, to living her best life with her pack and forever family, LADY is home.

HSBR would like to thank her foster now forever family, Robyn & Al, for bringing LADY and her babies into their home and advocating for them so beautifully. We are so grateful for you all and all that you do for the animals!

LADY now spends her days playing with her family at the Blue Ridge Lake.
