Shelter Dog

Day Out!

Give a shelter dog a day of adventure, fresh air, and a chance to shine outside the kennel.

Sometimes, our shelter dogs just need a break from kennel life and a chance to enjoy the world outside the shelter!

Our Shelter Dog Day Out program gives community members the opportunity to spend quality time with one of our adoptable dogs for the day, or even overnight for a fun “PJ Party.”

Visitors can come meet our dogs, learn a little about their personalities, energy levels, and needs, then fill out a simple form to be matched with the right pup for their adventure.

Whether it’s a walk through downtown Blue Ridge, a hike on your favorite trail, a relaxing afternoon at home, or a sleepover with plenty of couch time, these outings help dogs decompress, build confidence, and get valuable socialization outside the shelter environment.

Humane Society of Blue Ridge provides everything you need, including food, treats, supplies, clear do’s and don’ts, and instructions on what to do in the event of an unexpected medical emergency.

It’s a simple way to make a big difference. A single day of fresh air, adventure, and one-on-one attention can help a shelter dog shine and even improve their chances of finding a forever home.
