Fulton’s Second Chance: From a Euthanasia List to a Forever Home

Fulton’s Second Chance

From a euthanasia list to a forever home

When Fulton first came to the Humane Society of Blue Ridge, he was just a puppy.

He had been pulled from a euthanasia list at a county shelter in Georgia, one of countless dogs facing uncertain futures in overcrowded facilities across the state. Thankfully, Fulton was given another chance and made his way to Blue Ridge where he could safely wait for a family to find him.

What no one expected was how long that wait would be.

As Fulton grew from a puppy into a young adult dog, he became a familiar face around the shelter. Staff and volunteers watched him grow up, cheering him on each time a new visitor walked through the doors.

Again and again, other dogs found homes.

Fulton stayed behind.

There was nothing wrong with him. Sometimes that is just how it goes in the shelter world. The right match simply had not come along yet.

Still, the team at the Humane Society of Blue Ridge never gave up on him.

For nearly two years Fulton waited patiently while staff, volunteers and supporters continued to share his story and believe that his family was out there somewhere.

And then, just before Christmas, it finally happened.

A family came to meet him and something clicked immediately.

Not long after, Fulton walked out of the shelter and into a home of his own.

Today Fulton is living the life we always hoped for him. He has two dog brothers to play with and two kids who adore him. After nearly two years of waiting, he finally has the family he deserved all along.

Stories like Fulton’s are a reminder of why animal rescue matters.

Shelters across Georgia are facing an ongoing crisis, with more animals arriving than many facilities can safely house. By pulling dogs from high risk shelters and giving them the time they need to find the right home, organizations like the Humane Society of Blue Ridge help relieve pressure on the system while giving animals the second chances they deserve.

Sometimes the perfect match just takes time.

For Fulton, that time was almost two years.

But in the end, it was worth the wait.
